Viajes y transporte
Topic-driven lesson: vocabulary and phrases for traveling. Buying tickets, checking in, checking into a hotel, taking a train or bus. Grammar highlight: the pair viajar a + place / viajar en + transport.
Airport and plane
el aeropuerto (airport), el vuelo (flight), el avión (airplane), la maleta (suitcase), el equipaje (luggage), la puerta de embarque (boarding gate), el pasaporte (passport), el billete / el boleto (ticket — Spain/Latin America), la tarjeta de embarque (boarding pass). Tengo un vuelo a Madrid = I have a flight to Madrid. El vuelo está retrasado = the flight is delayed.
Train and bus
la estación (station), el andén (platform), el vagón (car), el asiento (seat). el tren sale a las nueve (the train leaves at 9). el autobús llega tarde (the bus is arriving late). billete de ida (one-way), billete de ida y vuelta (round-trip).
Hotel
el hotel, la habitación (room), individual (single), doble (double), reservar (to reserve), la reserva (reservation), la recepción (front desk), la llave (key — also 'key' as in solution), incluido (included). ¿Está incluido el desayuno? (is breakfast included?). Tengo una reserva a nombre de Pablo.
Movement verbs
ir a (to go to), volver de (to return from), llegar a (to arrive at), salir de (to leave from), partir (to depart). Voy a Madrid = I'm going to Madrid. Vuelvo de España = I'm returning from Spain. Salimos de la estación a las ocho = we leave the station at eight.
Travel templates
estar de viaje (to be on a trip), hacer un viaje (to take a trip), hacer turismo (to do tourism), hacer la maleta (to pack a suitcase), perder el vuelo / el tren (to miss the flight/train). Voy a hacer la maleta esta noche (I'll pack tonight). Hemos perdido el tren (we missed the train).
Asking about routes and times
¿A qué hora sale? (what time does it leave?). ¿De qué andén sale? (which platform does it leave from?). ¿Cuánto dura el viaje? (how long is the trip?). ¿Cuánto cuesta el billete? (how much is the ticket?). ¿Hay descuento para estudiantes? (is there a student discount?). El viaje dura unas tres horas (the trip is about three hours).
