Places in the city

Buildings: el banco (bank), la farmacia (pharmacy), la iglesia (church), el hospital (hospital), la oficina de correos (post office), el supermercado (supermarket).

Place prepositions

All of them require de before the noun: cerca de la casa.

Asking for directions

Perdón, ¿dónde está…? = Excuse me, where is…? ¿Cómo llego a…? = How do I get to…? ¿Está lejos? = Is it far? ¿Está cerca? = Is it close? ¿Hay un… por aquí? = Is there a… around here? Standard traveler's toolkit.

Giving directions

Sigue todo recto = go straight. Gira / dobla a la derecha = turn right. Gira a la izquierda = turn left. Cruza la calle = cross the street. Está al final de la calle = at the end of the street. Está a dos cuadras / manzanas = it's two blocks away. (cuadra — Latin America, manzana — Spain.) Está a cinco minutos a pie = five minutes' walk.

Where / where to / where from

Three different question words. ¿Dónde estás? = where are you? (location). ¿Adónde vas? / ¿A dónde vas? = where are you going? (direction). ¿De dónde vienes? = where are you coming from? (origin). English uses prepositions to distinguish; Spanish has all three baked into the question word.
