Repaso final: ya hablas español

A natural conversation using everything you've learned.

Congratulations — you've made it through 49 lessons. You now have a full B1/B2 toolkit: every major indicative and subjunctive tense, all three conditional types, the imperative, change verbs, connectors, topic vocabulary from food to work. Today isn't a new topic — it's putting all of it into one living conversation, and locking in the habit of choosing constructions automatically.

The tense map

Present: hablo, como, vivo. Future: hablaré / voy a hablar. Past (single event): hablé, comí, viví. Past (backdrop/habit): hablaba, comía, vivía. Past with link to present: he hablado. Earlier past: había hablado. Conditional: hablaría. Past conditional: habría hablado. Subjunctive (pres.): hable, coma, viva. Subjunctive (past): hablara/hablase. Plusc. de subj.: hubiera/hubiese hablado. That's the entire map.

The 'if' map (si)

Type 1 — real: Si tengo tiempo, voy. Type 2 — hypothetical: Si tuviera tiempo, iría. Type 3 — past missed: Si hubiera tenido tiempo, habría ido. Mixed: Si hubiera estudiado, ahora sabría más. Hard rule: after si — NEVER futuro and NEVER conditional.

The politeness map

Direct: pásame el pan → softer: ¿Me podrías pasar el pan? → formal: ¿Le importaría pasarme el pan?. With conditional + por favor your speech instantly sounds adult and considered.

Subjunctive triggers

Memorize signal words: para que, antes de que, sin que, ojalá, quizá — almost always subj. cuando, hasta que, en cuanto — subj. for the future. Verbs of wishing/emotion/doubt with que — subj. when subjects differ. If everything points to a specific, real fact — indicative.

Connectors make speech sound mature

Don't say: Estaba cansado. Trabajaba. Say: A pesar de que estaba cansado, seguía trabajando. Or: Estaba cansado; sin embargo, seguía trabajando. Connectors turn a chain of sentences into a real text. At B2 they're used heavily — you can too.

What to do next

Listen to native speakers: podcasts, films, YouTube, Spotify. Read simple novels and graded readers. Talk to yourself out loud (no shame!) — narrate your day in Spanish. Find a language exchange partner online. The grammar is in your head; now you need hours of practice for it to become automatic. Suerte y hasta pronto.
